Economy

According to the national arrangement, Binh Thuan belongs to the Southeast Economic Region. The territory of Binh Thuan limits in 10°35'-11°38' North and 107°24'-108°53' East.

Aquatic products

Many rivers and streams, which origin from Di Linh Plateau in Lam Dong, flow through Binh Thuan to the sea. Generally, the river passing Binh Thuan have a total length of 663 km,  including Ca Ty (76 km), La Nga (74 km), Quao (63 km), Long Song (43 km), Phan (40 km), Mao (29 km) and Luy (25 km).

Binh Thuan is one of the three largest fishing grounds of Vietnam with 52,000 km2; the fishing reserves reach 240.000 tons of all seafood products, which is the favorable condition for processing seafood for export. Scallop, one of the specialties of Binh Thuan, concentrates in four main areas: La Khe, Hon Rom, Hon Cau and Phan Ri, with the total allowed fishing of 25 – 30 thousand tons per year.

Agriculture - Forestry

Binh Thuan province has 151,300 hectares of agricultural land, including more than 50,000 hectares for rice. An additional 100,000 hectares of agricultural land will be developed.

Cattle and poultry breedings are quite developed. It is also being invested to establish the land areas specialized in industrial crops and fruits.

This is an abundant source of raw materials to develop processing industries from industrial crops, etc... With total area of 400,000 hectares of forest and forestry land, 25 million m3 of woud reserves and lawns are the favorable precontion to establish woud processing factories and to develop large ranch farms, beef and pork processing factories, etc… In recent years, the area of cachew has been significantly reduced due to the reduction of cashew price, but dragon fruit and rubber tree area increased continuously.

Mineral

Binh Thuan province has many kinds of mineral with larger reserves:

Natural bicarbonate mineral water: there are more than 10 large reserves with high quality (including the 700oC hot mineral water reserves) can be exploited over 300 million liters per year. In particular, two mines are under exploitation and operation: Vinh Hao and Da Kai.

Glass sand: 4 mines in Ham Thuan Bac, Bac Binh and Ham Tan, total reserves of 500 million m3, qualified for export standards, suitable for producing high-class glass, construction glass, bricks.

Granite: very large reserve, and distributed widely.

Bentonite clay: used in cemical industry and oil exploitation, total reserves are about 20 million tons. Placer ore deposits for production of titanium and zircon have the total reservation of about one million tons. In Vinh Hao, its area is over 1000 ha, with outputs of 150.000 tons per year.

Oils and gas are considered as the new economic strength of Binh Thuan province, with many oil mines with high reserves discovered 60 km away from the mainland; there are three oil mines: Rang Dong, Su Tu Den and Rubi under exploitation. Su Tu Trang and Su Tu Vàng are under preparation stage. The Government and central bodies are paying their concern to invest and develop the oil and gas industry in Binh Thuan province to form a petroleum reserve center to ensure the national energy security and export.

Tourism

On October 24th, 1995, thousand of people including domestic and international scientists and tourists came to Ta Don Mountain (Ham Thuan Bac) and Mui Ne – Phan Thiet to observe and study the full eclipse phenomenon. At that time, they had realized many interesting landscapes and abundant tourism potential in this place. That was considered as a milestone which Binh Thuan had firstly appeared on Vietnam’s tourism map.

As a coastal province with warm and sunny all year-round climate, many clean and nice beaches, poetic natural landscapes, and convenient transportation, Binh Thuan province currently is one of largest tourism center of Vietnam.

Binh Thuan has invested to develop several tourism complexes, including resorts – sports – climbing – yacht – fishing – golf course – recreation and medical treatment in Mui Ne ward (Phan Thiet city), Ham Tan, Tuy Phong. Currently, Phan Thiet city has an 18-holes golf course and Sealinks resort with international standards, many high-lass hotels, luxurious resorts, coastal motels, etc… ready to satisfy the needs of accommodation and entertainment of tourists and investors. Binh Thuan also has many cultural-historical relics, famous landscapes and spots.
