Economic development potentials

Binh Thuan province has rich and diversifiel naturai resources to develop agro-forestry, processing-mining industries and tourism-services.

Fisheries:

With the large water territory of 52,000 square kilometers, Binh Thuan sea has been one of the three Vietnam biggest fishing fields, with reserve 220,000- 240,000 tons, among them having many kinds of rare and precious marine products with high economic value. In the whole province, there are 6,000 ships with total capacity of 230,000 HP and the productivity of marine products annually exploited over 130,000 tons. Due to favorable natural conditions, in the North of the province, there 3,000 ha of land have been used for rearing shimp. The Southern coastal areas have nearly 1,000 ha of tide-ground which are suitable for rearing and growing aqua-products. Located in the East sea, Phu Quy island district is nearby international maritime route and the intesection point of the North and South, East and West, as well as Truong Sa fishing field. Phu Quy island is also the favorable point for catching, exploiting and processing marine products and developing navigation services and tourism.

To carry out development direction from now till the year 2005, Binh Thuan fisheries is implementing many programs on catching sea-products, expanding aqua-culture investment to enlarge and modernize processing factories, diversify trade articles, improve quality vessel repairing-contruction engieering, aqua-culure home front-service. Phan Thiet - Phu Quy will be built as a main piscatorial center of the province.

Agriculture-forestry:

The whole province has 151,300 ha of agricultural cultivated land in wich there are over 50,000 ha lands of rice. In the future, the province will develop more 100,000 ha of agricultural land. Breeding cattle and poultry has developed. The province ha invested in forming the areas specializing in long- term industrial trees and fruit trees with nearly 20,000 ha of rubber, 30,000 ha of cashew; 10,000 ha of grape trees, etc. These are the sources of abundant raw materials to develop processing industries industrial trees, food and foodstuff, etc. With 400,000 ha of forest and forestry land, the wood reserve of 25 million cubic meters; and pasture land are precondition to establish wood processing plantsm, develop large farms for cattle breeding and establish plants for beef, prk processing, etc

Mineral products:

Natural mineral resources are various, great reserve, especially Bicarbonate natural mineral water, with ten mines which have great reserve and good quality, (in which there is a 70⁰C mineral hot water mines) possibly exploited over 300 million liters/year; At present, two mines have been exploited and carries on business (Vinh Hao and Da Kai). There are four great mines of glass sand at Ham Thuan Bac, Bac Binh and Ham Tan districts with reserve of over 500 million m³ the sand quality meets the export standard, suitable for producing prime glass, construction glass, glass bricks. With great reserve, granite has disposed everywhere. Bentonite clay has been used in chemical industry and oil exploitation, with the reserve about 20 million tons. The ore of heavy sand has been used to produce Titanium and Zircon with the reserve about one million tons. In Vinh Hao commune, industrial salt is famous, with area of over 1,000 ha and productivity of 150,000 tons/year.

Tourist Potentiality:

Being a coastal province, Binh Thuan gets warm weather around he year and possesses many clean and beautiful beaches, natural, dreamy and romantic landscapes, and favorable communication. In Phan Thiet, Ham Tan, Tuy Phong will be able to invest in building groups of tourism - resorts - sport - mountain climbing - yachting - fishing - golf course - being convalescence - cure. At present, Phan Thiet is developing into a tourist group according to this model with 18-hole golf, 15 big hotels, and 16 tourist resorts providing totally over 400 superior rooms. Besides, there are some other resorts, mini hotels, houses for rent providing more 800 sea - view rooms readily to meet tourist and investors demands for meals, relaxation and entertainment. Apart from that, Binh Thuan still has many relics  of culture - history, and famed beautiful sports such as famous Champa cultural relics, Ong Hong mansion, Ta Kóu cultural relics, Hang pagoda, Thay Thim palace, etc.
